Genre

We have decided to focus on romance as our genre. We want to do something very different to last year and a genre we can really follow the conventions well or in some cases challenge them. We thought romance would be good for this. There are also a lot of sub genres we can look at; so many films have romance as a sub-plot, making the romance genre very broad.

As we were deciding on a genre, we thought of plots and had the idea of doing a tragic romance. That way there will be a strong depth of emotion that we can really play on.

Initial ideas

When deciding the genre for our trailer, poster and magazine cover we explored the possibilities of these different genres. Eventually we narrored it down to either horror or romance. We thought horror would be good as it is a defined genre, so the conventions are easily conveyed. We also have easy access to a typical horror film location (i.e graveyard etc). However, the problems with horror is that we thought it would be too similar to our AS plot (psychological thriller), so by doing this genre for our A2 coursework, it may seem that we weren't exploring other ideas. Because of this, we decided romance would be the best genre for us to do. Because we are all interested in romance films, this would be a good genre, as we will feel more motivated to complete the task. In addition to this, it is a totally different theme to our AS plot, so it will show our versatility and our skills to adapt to different genres and their conventions.

This year i am working in a group with Alice and Beth again. We chose to work together because we found that we worked well together last year and came out with good grades for our coursework. This is a time plan we made together to make the most of our time and go make sure we get everything done by the final deadline.
